Welcome to the Ear Biscuit Podcast where two lifelong friends talk about life I’m Rhett and I’m the link to this week’s dimly lit round table and you’re in for a treat I’m excited and I’ve been looking forward to this one we’re going to introduce you to another one of our best friends from college that we’ve been in touch with we’re going to introduce you to another one of our best friends from college that we’ve been in connection I mean, we’re going to get into some of that, but we’re going to introduce you to the one and only Greg Heart Field Greg, you’re here, no, you’re not, I did, you did, you’re at your house, there’s a phone call, you’re communicating you’re in Washington State yes, I’m there, right there, we’re still in Burbank we’ve been talking about Greg all these years I mean, Recently, if you watched our other show, “Mythbusters Morning,” you would know that if you watched our other show, “Mythbusters Morning,” you would know that the black pedestal that appears on the show, which is basically many years old, for most of the history of the show, is the pedestal that Greg gave us when he went to Argentina after college, so we’re talking about 20 years ago. We then realized that I could just play guitar and go down an octave in garageband yeah, yeah, but recently Greg asked for the bass back, so the whole story unfolded on a nice fabulous morning, but by the way, if you have something that you think you can put in the space that the base takes up, you let us know there’s a Twitter post where you post your picture You’re basically selling why this is something special and hopefully it’s this base and I’m trying to lobby the state of Alabama to donate one of his bases and I just think it’s interesting and if he doesn’t want it, we just want someone named Greg, preferably someone named Greg with two G’s at the end so Greg, did you get the base? It’s here it’s here it needs to be rehung you didn’t maintain the base it wasn’t damaged when it arrived yeah it needs a wipe down and some strings yeah I mean a bass string can’t last 20 years it might last 6 months now listen if you don’t replace those strings and play it in the next two weeks we’re liable to ask you if you’ve played it in a few years and you’ll feel very embarrassed. You’re going to have to start lying to us that you’re playing it, so you’re going to have to keep working on it, man. I’m making plans, I’m.
..
..
. I didn’t have a plan until now I have a plan, I’m not really sure of the details of the plan, but there’s a plan, there’s a lot How good were you before you gave us the foundation? I wasn’t very good, you know, from one to ten, I was probably two, well, you stayed steady at two.
I went to a jazz club in Raleigh and went to a mic night and for some reason people thought I was good on bass, but I don’t think I was good, are you talking about when you were in college? No, it was after college, I went with Tom from our church, you did a little bit of bass stuff, I didn’t know you were working part time, I remember the first time we met you had an acoustic guitar, you could probably play some Well, tell us, do you remember the first time you met us? I spent 30 minutes trying to recreate that memory in my mind and didn’t find much, but the first time I met you guys, I think it was pre-college freshman year, I saw the crew I read about on stage and I was like the guy above me and didn’t really care, you know, didn’t really want to attend the meeting. As far as I remember, we didn’t meet until my sophomore year, and if that was the first time you saw me, it was your sophomore year, because I did, because I probably got the front stuff freshman year, but I didn’t host until my freshman year lobbying Mike, knowing that the senior guy was graduating, so I said to Mark, what can I do? So you must have, because I remember I remember it was the beginning of my sophomore year, we definitely became friends, early on in our sophomore year, but what do you remember about us, I mean I remember what I remember about you, but I’ll let you start, you remember when we first became friends sophomore year, it was in the context of Campus Crusade, Todd Smith was, and still is a full-time staff member. He was a full-time staff member who led Bible studies, organized weekly meetings, and a lot of things like that, a lot of organizational things that happened on campus, but he knew you, and then he knew us, and then we must have met through Todd Leigh.
